About OMEA State Finals

State Marching Band Finals are the culminating event of the OMEA marching season. Bands must earn an overall Superior Rating at one local contest to qualify for State Finals.

Each band will perform for Ratings Only- there are no points or trophies awarded at State Finals. The competition is against a high standard, not against other bands. Our goal at State Finals is to earn Superior Ratings from each judge on the panel.

Bands are grouped in 2 hour blocks of 6-7 bands followed by an awards ceremony, where final ratings are announced and plaques given to bands that earn a Superior Rating.

Click here for the SMBF website which includes a complete schedule of performances.

State Finals Volunteer Needs

We are currently have 80% of our State Finals volunteer positions filled- thank you! We really need to get that to 100% as soon as possible. The biggest needs are in concessions and parking from 6 or 7p to the end of the night. Volunteers will be able to duck out to see us perform at 8:00.

Please see Julie Kurtz’s Booster Bytes for sign-ups.

Students are welcome to volunteer in concessions, but not with the parking crews.

New Philadelphia Recap

We’re very proud of everyone for another award-winning performance in New Philadelphia on Saturday! We faced some excellent competition but won 1st place overall – other awards earned were:

  • Overall Best Music
  • Overall Best Visual
  • Overall Best General Effect
  • Overall Best Percussion
  • Overall Best Guard
  • 1st Place Class AA
  • Class AA – Best Percussion and Guard
  • Overall Superior Rating

Band members also scored over 275 points for the 3rd straight competition! Any score over 275 puts us in very elite company! They have also completed an undefeated season – congratulations!

Football Playoffs?

Right now we are not in the playoffs at the end of the season. We have to win our game this Friday and then have 1 or 2 other things go our way to get selected.

If we do make the playoffs, we will rehearse on Thursdays from 3-5p and games are on Fridays. We will not be rehearsing marching band during the school day for the playoffs.

Skull Session Performance

As the high school football season winds down, we have one additional performance to look forward to: performing at Skull Session with The Ohio State University Marching Band on Saturday, November 11th before the Michigan State game.

Skull Sessions begin 2 hours 15 minutes before kickoff, and we begin playing 3 hours before. Right now the game time is TBD. Keep an eye on the OSU schedule- the time should be announced soon. Our day will include warming up at school, dressing and loading, travelling to campus, parking, and moving our equipment to St. John arena. Tentative report times are:

  • 3:30p kickoff: 8:30a
  • 8:00p kickoff: 1:00p
